Carmen has accompanied people in the hospital and their home while they received medical surgical, intensive, palliative or mental health care. In the past 15 years, Carmen has focused her practice on supporting the mental wellbeing and recovery of individuals, families and communities through direct care, teaching and advocacy work.
Carmen obtained her Bachelor of Science of Nursing at Université de Montréal, her Master’s of Science in Nursing at Villanova University in Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Ottawa.

She is a published researcher and her most recent focus of research has been the lived experience of university nursing students with mental health concerns. She sits on the board of the Canadian Federation of Mental Health Nurses and other boards in hope of advocating for better mental health care and systems that nurture recovery.
